Q:

After completing the PPS 5-day assessment, a Medicare resident developed symptoms and tested positive for COVID-19 later in their stay. The resident was subsequently moved to the COVID (RED) unit in single room isolation. Should I complete an IPA?

A:

Once assuring that coding criteria for isolation is met (RAI Ch. 3, pg. O-5) completing an IPA may be beneficial knowing that a Nursing Case Mix Group of Extensive Services and 1 NTA point will be achieved. Consider scheduling the IPA ARD as soon as able ensuring that at least one day of isolation falls within the reference period for Section O.
